A Campin' We Will Go!

This weekend Drew and Tana came to visit and we had a busy busy weekend. Sat they came up and we went to the movies and dinner. Sunday to Monday we went camping at lake Folsom. I booked the campsite less then a week before a little last minute (on a 3 day weekend-smart one) so we were hoping for the best when it came to the site.

We got super lucky because it was actually really nice (minus the car sickness getting there) and we were right by the water.

Drew's birthday was today so I had made him some peanut buttery treats. It had been awhile since I stuck a Reese's on top of a cookie so it was time lol.

Hey Boys! ...see not bad right by the water!
cocktail time!
umm... is it bad that my shorts are the same color as my legs? They needed to see some sun.

smiles!

lol... they have the same silly faces going on.

game time...who kicked butt in spades?...;)

I was paparazzi.

We had a great time! It had been way too long since I camped. Happy birthday Drew thanks for sharing your day with us! ...always a pleasure you two.

Candy Leis

Kindergarten promotion is on Wednesday (our last day of school is Thurs.) so for the Kindergarten teachers I decided to make candy leis. I was deciding on a cheap gift and I found this idea on another blog. I liked the idea of using colorful ribbon instead of the cheapo plastic curling ribbon-it gave it more pizazz!

For Mrs. Cooley the teacher I took the kinder class over for I had each of the kiddies write a thank you note and then I folded them up and put them with the candy, I figured it would be a cute little surprise when she opened each one.

They turned out really cute and for little $. I liked the ideas of writing little notes to put in it too- great gift for graduation, father's day coming up, or just to surprise someone who means a lot to you!

Terra's Big Day

Last weekend I got to go home again! Woo hoo I am totally getting spoiled with spending time with the fam...lovin' it! The special occasion was for a friends from high school's wedding. Terra is an amazing friend-one of those that will do anything for any one, so thier big day was filled with a lot of personal touches and love...and dancing ;)

Beautiful! Love the bird cage vail.

awwwww...

This picture was my last one the batteries ran out :( Here is Sherina...and Danny in the background they were my last wedding they have been married for 8 months already wow lol.

So I learned a couple things about weddings:

1. I love them. Especially when it's a fun couple that love each other so much.

2. You know your getting old when your the only person at your table that's not married.

3. Always bring extra batteries. lol

For the rest of the weekend I got to play with a cutie pie!

and two of my favoritous people on earth! We did girl stuff like pedi's, lunch and played lots of games gotta love it!

It might be a while before I get to go back, we have been a couple of stress cases over here because it's really hitting us that we have to pack, find a place to live (and me hopefully get my job) in a month! But sissy is coming in two weeks yeah!

Cheese Dome Project

So I am tapping into my inner Heather here and I completed hopefully a first of many Do-it-myself projects.

I had gotten this domed cheese plate at a second hand store when we went to Monterey for Easter. I had seen on Thrifty Decor Chick how she transformed hers, so I gave it a shot and am already itchin' for my next find/project.

I just twisted off the stoppers on the bottom of the plate.

Spray painted it white after lightly sanding it.

After it dried I sanded it up a bit to antique it.

Ta Da! not bad...but we can do better!

candle stick and some gorilla glue.

Glue on the bottom and let dry a few hours.

Ta-Da! :) lol... just got to figure out where it should go and what will go in it .

Honey Bun Cake

I love honey buns-I really only remember eating them as a kid, but they sure are tasty little things. So when I saw this cake in my Cake Dr. book I had to make it...now all I need is a reason. Greg's dad and brother coming for dinner before they go to a clay shooting luncheon Saturday-perfect!

Mix together 1 pkg. yellow cake mix, 1 cup sour cream, 3/4 cup vegetable oil and 4 large eggs.

Pour batter in a lightly sprayed 13 by 9 pan. Now for the filling... drizzle 1/3 cup of honey on top of the batter. Then sprinkle 1/3 cup packed brown sugar, 2 tbs ground cinnamon, and optional 1/2 cup chopped pecans (I probably would leave them out next time).

With a knife lightly swirl through the ingredients to blend slightly.

bake at 350 degrees for 38-40 minutes

While hot pour the glaze over the top of the cake, spreading around with the back of a spoon. How do you make the glaze you ask ;) lol

mix until smooth : 2 cups powdered sugar, 1/3 cup milk, 1 tsp vanilla (I did 1 tsp vanilla extract and 1 tsp maple extract yum).

I am so happy with how it turned out-it actually tasted JUST like a honey bun. We had it for dessert and then the boys had it for breakfast...it's good either way!

Do- Ahead Potatoe casserole

While I was off Thursday I made a Do- Ahead potato casserole to have for Friday nights dinner with Greg's dad and brother. I got this recipe from a teacher at work-she made it for one of our pot lucks and it's really yummy. When it came time to eat it on Friday- I ate it really fast to try and get some in my belly...before it had to come out lol. Good news is that today I had the rest for lunch and it's all still in me ;) lol sorry if I just grossed anyone out he he...

Claudia, Greg wanted me to give you the recipe so here you go -it's kinda like the ones you already make !

peel and cube 6 medium potatoes. Boil and cook until tender. Then drain. and add 1/4 cup butter (I only used 2 tbs).

In a bowl add 1/2 cup shredded cheese, 16 oz sour cream, 1 can cream of mushroom soup and 1/3 sliced green onion. Mix well

Add potatoes to the mixture and mix well.

put in a baking dish and sprinkle with paprika bake on 350 for 30-45 minutes.

Another year Fabulous

So a disclaimer of why it took me so long to post this-I'll keep it short and sweet (trust me you don't want details) My sister, mom and I were the lucky recipients of a parting gift last weekend...a stomach virus! We all have never experienced this kind of thing and we don't want to ever again! I am able to catch up on this thing because I called in sick today-I have only called in sick two times in my whole working career (since I was 16) so this was not fun. The dr. told Heather it would last 7-10 days, 5 days in and it's dwindling, but keeping a UN too friendly presence.

Honestly, a picture is going to have to speak a thousand words because when it came to this past weekend I am close to speechless. It was absolutely perfect ...besides being so short. I got to spend some goofing around, giggling and gabbing time with my sissy - I got to see all my family which I love so much and we got to surprise and celebrate the women who has more impact on our life than any other. Mom I hope you felt as special as we do getting to have a mom like you. I know I ALWAYS say this especially after seeing my family when it's been awhile, but I am so blessed! I would not trade my family in for any other in the world... They are crazy, loving and never stop making me laugh.
